Windows 98 Setup Instructions

1. Installing Dial-Up Networking
  1. Click StartSettings, then Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs icon.
  3. Select the Windows Setup page tab.
  4. Single-click Communications and press the Details button.
  5. If the Dial-Up Networking item is not checked, select it and click OK.
  6. Press OK again. You may need your Windows CD-ROM and/or have to restart the system.
2. Setting up the Dial-Up Adapter and TCP/IP Protocol
  1. Click StartSettings, then Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Network icon.
  3. Verify whether the Dial-Up Adapter is present. If it isn't:
    • Click Add then double-click Adapter.
    • Select Microsoft and Dial-Up Adapter then click OK.
  4. Verify the TCP/IP Protocol is present. If it isn't:
    • Click Add then Double-click Protocol.
    • Select Microsoft and TCP/IP then click OK.
  5. Click OK. You may need your Windows CD-ROM and/or have to restart the system.
3. Configuring the Dial-up Connection
  1. Double-click the My Computer Icon, which is on the desktop.
  2. Double-click the Dial-Up Networking icon.
  3. Double-click the Make New Connection icon.
  4. Type in I.NET.AU for the name of the computer you are dialing.
  5. Select your modem from the list and press Next.
  6. Leave the Area Code field Blank and add the I.NET.AU dial-up number 0198 333 669.
  7. Click Next, then Finish.
  8. Right-Click the new I.NET.AU icon and select Properties.
  9. In the Phone number section, set the Use area code and Dialing Properties to NOT checked.
  10. Click the Server Type page tab.
  11. The Type of Dial-Up Server should be set to PPP: Internet, Windows NT Server, Windows 98.
  12. In the Advanced Options Section make sure the settings are as follows:
    ¨   Log on to network
    þ   Enable software compression
    ¨   Require encrypted password
    ¨   Require data encryption
    ¨   Record a log file for this connnection
  13. The Allowed network protocols should be as follows:
    ¨   NetBEUI
    ¨   IPX/SPX Compatible
    þ   TCP/IP
  14. Click OK twice.
4. Dialing up I.NET.AU

Double-click the I.NET.AU icon and enter your username and password. Pressing the Connect button will dial the Internet and leave you with the Connected to I.NET.AU window.
